Clear guides for Instagram video links

Learn every essential step, from finding the correct address for a Reel, video post or video carousel to resolving common link errors. These guides cover only public, supported video pages.

Open the Instagram video tool

Not every screen you see in Instagram produces the same kind of link. A profile address, Explore page, audio page or Story link is different from the direct address of a Reel or post. Intagram processes only public pages containing video at /reel/, /reels/, /p/ and the older /tv/ paths. This guide center helps you select the right link and understand the result shown by the tool. It never recommends a method that needs an account name, password or Instagram session cookie.

Which guide should you read first?

If you do not have a link yet, begin with the link-copying guide. It explains where the share control can appear in the iOS and Android versions of Instagram, which URL to take from a desktop address bar, and how to open the post itself instead of copying a profile. If you already have an address shaped like instagram.com/reel/… or instagram.com/p/… and see several videos in the result, the Reels and carousel guide will be more useful.

Both guides follow the same principle: Intagram displays only the video options offered by the source. It does not turn a photo into a video, bypass a private account’s access control or open a page that requires sign-in. Those boundaries are deliberate protections for your account and the content owner’s access choices, not missing shortcuts.

Recognizing Reel, post and carousel links

A Reel address normally contains /reel/. Some sharing flows may also produce a /reels/ form. A regular post address begins with /p/. That post can contain one video or a swipeable carousel. When a carousel combines photos and videos, Intagram lists only the downloadable video items; it does not create a video button for a photo. Older IGTV pages using /tv/ remain within scope when their public video is still available.

Profiles, Stories, Reels audio pages, Explore feeds and sign-in screens do not identify one public video post. Pasting them into the tool therefore produces no result. If a messaging app supplied the share URL, open it in a browser and confirm that its final destination really is a Reel or post page.

A short roadmap for each device

iPhone and iPad

Open the Reel or post in Instagram, tap the share icon and choose Copy link. If the option is not in the first row, inspect the additional actions on the share sheet. For a post open in Safari, tap the address bar and copy the full page address. Return to Intagram, touch and hold the link field, and paste.

Android

Open the post’s share control or three-dot menu. The location of Copy link can vary by app version. After copying, you can open the address in Chrome to verify that it reaches a Reel or /p/ page, then paste it into Intagram.

Desktop browser

Click the date, post title or open-in-separate-page control on the feed item. When the address bar shows a URL containing the post’s unique code, copy the whole address. Do not copy only the instagram.com home page or the creator’s profile.

If no result appears, check these points

  • Confirm that the address uses HTTPS and that the host is instagram.com or www.instagram.com.
  • Make sure the path identifies a Reel, video post, video carousel or older IGTV page.
  • If you cannot view the post in a signed-out private window, the content may not be public.
  • Open a shortened link from a messaging app in your browser and copy the resulting full post address.
  • Source media URLs can be short-lived, so submit the post URL again when an older download button expires.
  • Do not expect a downloadable video option when a carousel contains photos only.
Responsible use: Public visibility does not grant permission to republish or use a video commercially. Download only videos you own or have explicit permission to use. Private accounts, Close Friends content, Stories and pages requiring sign-in are not supported.

Moving from a guide to the tool

Once you have the correct post address, open the main Intagram tool, paste the link into the field and start preparation. If the source supplies resolution or approximate size information, it appears with the result. When a carousel contains several videos, every downloadable item receives its own label. The tool does not guess unknown quality and does not manufacture a format that the source did not provide.

For a more detailed sequence, continue to How to copy an Instagram link. To understand content types and multi-video results, read Instagram Reels and carousel videos. These pages help you use the existing public-video workflow more safely and clearly without promising unsupported content types.
